Dr Filiz Bakir (Founder) - AP, DOM.

Acupuncture Physician, Doctor of Oriental Medicine

Filiz Bakir is the Founder and Medical Director of Thrive Wellness Center. Filiz discovered the profound healing abilities of Traditional Chinese and Energy Medicine through her own illness. She discovered Chinese Medicine in the early 90’s after having spent 6 month in the bone marrow unit of Georgetown Medical Center in Washington DC where her brother was being treated for late stage acute Leukemia. At the end of her brother’s treatment Filiz returned back to Florida and noticed that she was not feeling well (She knows today that she was suffering from Adrenal Exhaustion). She experienced debilitating fatigue, frequent panic attacks, multiple chemical and nutritional sensitivities, insomnia and more. Going from one doctor to the other she soon found out that the only thing Western medicine could offer were antidepressants. No one even had time to listen to her!

Upon a friend’s recommendation she agreed to give Acupuncture a try.  Amazed that even one treatment made such a difference she continued her treatments and began exploring Traditional Chinese Medicine. Filiz Bakir soon discovered amazing teachers in the field of Energy Medicine, the medicine that is based on the electro-magnetic energy systems of the body. She studied with world renowned teachers like Carolyne Myss and Donna Eden and became a Certified Energy Medicine Practitioner. The decision to become a Licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine soon followed.

Today, Filiz Bakir is Board Certified licensed Acupuncture Physician specializing in integrative care where many modalities are used in combination to best address the patient’s needs to produce the most successful outcome. Filiz is a master practitioner of Nutripuncture, a French modality, first developed by Nicola Tesla and George Lakhovski. Nutripuncture uses special combination of trace minerals to address cellular imprints that modulate gene expression. She also has an advanced understanding of Nutrigenomics, which is the study of the effects of foods and food constituents on gene expression. She is able to literally look into the patient’s genes and their cellular nutritional and hormonal levels and recognize patterns of dys-function due to genetic mutations that often are the root cause to many chronic conditions. Filiz Bakir also incorporates resolution of emotional and physical traumas into the patient’s care.
